Concerns raised over road quality near tunnels north of Fjall in Norway

Concerns have been raised regarding the quality of the underlying material on roads leading to and from the new tunnels north of Fjall, which may be contributing to the asphalt’s inability to withstand heavy traffic.

This situation mirrors the problems faced by roads in the Dølar region, which deteriorated rapidly due to poor underlying conditions.

Steffan Klein Poulsen, a member of parliament, has questioned the Minister of Transport about the ongoing asphalt work in these areas. He has inquired specifically why several sections of the project have had to be re-asphalted, whether the underlying foundation is adequately constructed, and what materials have been used for that foundation.

In response, Sigurð Ólason Vang, a department leader at Landsverk, acknowledged that on some road segments, the materials were subpar, necessitating rework on certain areas. He confirmed that the project is still underway and expressed optimism that the new tunnels north of Fjall will be operational by the turn of the year.
