Brynjar Níelsson resigns as deputy member of parliament in Reykjavik

Brynjar Níelsson, a former MP and the first deputy member of the Independence Party in the northern Reykjavik constituency, has resigned from his position as deputy member of parliament. He announced his resignation in a letter to the Althingi, which was read by Birgir Ármannsson, the president of the Althingi, at the start of today’s session. Following this change, the deputy members of the party in the constituency will be promoted, with Kjartan Magnússon taking over as the primary member.

Brynjar served in parliament from 2013 to 2021. During his tenure, he worked as an assistant to Jón Gunnarsson when Gunnarsson was Minister of Interior and later Minister of Justice. In October of last year, Brynjar was appointed to the Ministry of Finance, with his contract valid until May.
