Young employees under the age of 30 report sick at double the rate of their older colleagues, according to the 2024 Job Health Survey. Legal expert Tommy Iseskog suggests that this trend may be linked to the fact that younger workers have recently transitioned from school to the workplace.

Iseskog explains, “If I have injured my arm, it may be natural for me not to attend school, whereas it’s not necessarily obvious that I can take time off work.” This raises the question of what constitutes valid reasons for being absent from work.
