Autumn weather arrives in Finland as warm days give way to cooler temperatures
Meteorologist Laura Tuomola from Yle reports that autumn weather will arrive from the north on Friday. Until then, Thursday will remain warm for early autumn.
On Thursday, mostly clear days are expected, with no significant low-pressure systems in sight, resulting in minimal rainfall, according to Tuomola. A westerly föhn wind will continue to bring warm, dry air, with temperatures in some areas reaching 20 degrees Celsius, although this increase depends on the clearing of cloud cover. In Lapland, clouds and rain will be more prevalent than in the rest of the country.
On Friday, Lapland may experience a few rain showers, while other regions will remain dry. The wind will shift from being warm to turning cold with a northern breeze, which will be strong in Lapland.
By Saturday, a cooler air mass will spread across the entire country, with temperatures in the south dropping to around 10 degrees, and possibly 13 degrees in the far south. The central regions are likely to experience sporadic rainfall.
Initially, overnight temperatures will remain above freezing. However, the risk of frosty conditions, particularly ground frost, is expected in Lapland by Friday night, and there may also be frost in both northern regions and Ostrobothnia on Saturday night, potentially extending further south.
During the night between Saturday and Sunday, northern areas could see widespread nighttime frosts. Any potential snowfall is expected to remain across the border in Norway for now, with little chance of it reaching Finland just yet.
