Shooting incident in Vantaa’s Pähkinärinne leads to arrest under suspicion of attempted manslaughter

The police have provided more details regarding the shooting incident that occurred in Vantaa’s Pähkinärinne on Thursday. As the investigation progresses, it has been revealed that the victim and the suspect were previously acquainted, and the victim was specifically targeted by the suspect. During interrogation and the subsequent detention hearing, the suspect admitted to shooting towards the victim multiple times.

“The suspect acted with a clear determination, and the situation escalated quite rapidly. The entire event lasted less than a minute. It is, in fact, a miracle that the victim survived the shooting,” stated Chief Investigator Rauno Jämsä in a press release.

Authorities suspect that the shooting took place inside a commercial space at the Pähkinärinne shopping center. The suspect was taken into custody on Monday afternoon under strong suspicion of attempted manslaughter. Earlier, the police reported that a 50-year-old man of foreign descent was injured in the shooting. The alleged shooter is also of foreign descent and is approximately in his thirties.
