Shooting victim in stable condition as investigation continues in Vantaa, Finland

The victim of a shooting that occurred on Thursday at a shopping center in Pähkinärinne, Vantaa, remains hospitalized but is reported to be in a stable condition, according to lead investigator Rauno Jämsä. There are plans for the victim to possibly be transferred from intensive care to a regular ward today.

The victim, a 50-year-old man of foreign descent, has not yet been interviewed, as he has been in intensive care over the weekend. Jämsä expressed optimism that authorities could speak to him early this week.

The suspected shooter, also of foreign descent, is described by police as a man in his early thirties. He is expected to be presented for remand on Monday afternoon, facing charges of attempted murder.

Investigators have yet to interview all witnesses, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Authorities are also looking into whether the victim and the suspect knew each other prior to the incident. Jämsä noted that at this stage, he could not disclose their reasons for being at the pizzeria.

The shooting took place on the afternoon of September 12, when one individual discharged a firearm at another inside a restaurant located within the shopping center.
