Charges filed in North Savo District Court over doping distribution in Varkaus
Charges have been filed in the North Savo District Court regarding the distribution of doping substances in Varkaus. The prosecutor is seeking a 3.5-year prison sentence for a man accused of possessing a significant quantity of various doping agents with the intent to distribute them illegally. In August 2022, authorities seized both liquid and powdered doping substances from the man’s possession, including 125,000 milligrams of liquid boldenone and nandrolone, which are anabolic steroids—equivalent to seven deciliters. Additionally, other doping agents, including testosterone, were found.
According to the street prices provided by the man, the total value of the seized substances ranges between €50,000 and €200,000. The indictment states that these substances could potentially cover around 740 misuse cycles, using them for two months followed by a two-month break. Consequently, the confiscated materials could sustain approximately 250 users for a year.
The prosecutor claims that the man intended to convert the powdered substances into ready-to-use doping products and distribute them illegally. Professional labels, a box of ampoules, and hundreds of Viagra labels were also discovered during the seizure, indicating a pursuit of substantial financial gain. The prosecutor has categorized the crimes as serious due to the presence of highly dangerous substances, including testosterone and anabolic steroids.
Another individual from Joroinen is also facing charges related to firearms possession. He is accused of having an unlicensed pistol, a revolver, and ammunition, with a request for a three-month prison sentence in the district court.
