The Kymenlaakso District Court has sentenced a cadet officer to a fine for humiliating treatment of a non-commissioned officer cadet at the Karelia Brigade in Kouvola. The incidents took place in the fall of 2022.
The cadet officer, born in 2002, commanded the non-commissioned officer cadet to crawl or crawl on the unit’s floor. He also encouraged others to witness the event, leading several conscripts watching to record the incident and laugh. Furthermore, the cadet officer ordered the non-commissioned officer cadet and another cadet to take out the trash while they were off duty, despite it not being part of their responsibilities.
Additionally, the cadet officer demeaned the non-commissioned officer cadet with derogatory remarks, labeling him a “rapist” and claiming that child pornography could be found on his phone. He also woke two cadets earlier than the rest and messed up their beds.
As a consequence of the abuse of authority and defamation, the court fined the cadet officer 45 day-fines, totaling 270 euros. The state and the cadet officer are also required to pay 400 euros in compensation for suffering. This ruling is now legally binding.
