Dispute arises between City of Rauma and residential property over electric scooters in Old Rauma

A dispute has arisen between the City of Rauma and a residential property in the Old Rauma area regarding electric scooters. The matter is currently being addressed in the Turku Administrative Court.

The disagreement began last autumn when electric scooters were parked outside the residential building. The property management requested the city to remove the scooters, which then communicated the issue to the rental company of the scooters. However, this parking problem did not end there. When the scooters remained in place during subsequent incidents, the property management informed the city that if the scooters were not removed the same day, they would send a bill of €50 for each scooter that needed to be relocated.

The city contended that the scooters were not their responsibility. Consequently, the property management took matters into their own hands, removing the scooters themselves and sending a bill of €200 to the city, which the city did not pay.

The property management has filed a complaint with the administrative court, arguing that the city overstepped its authority and did not act in accordance with the law. In turn, the city rejects these claims, referencing regulations concerning the maintenance and cleanliness of streets and public spaces. Rauma officials believe that while they are required to keep the streets tidy, they are not obligated to remove scooters without prior notice.

Rauma’s technical committee will discuss this statement today, while the administrative court will make a ruling on the case at a later date.
