Havsbrún, the fishmeal and feed factory located in Fuglafjørður, has recently completed the installation of a new 75-meter tall chimney. This initiative is part of a broader plan aimed at reducing odors emanating from the facility.

The new chimney significantly surpasses the height of previous ones, with the tallest existing chimney at 47 meters. This means that the new structure is 28 meters taller than the second-highest chimney currently in use.

Additionally, a new air purification system is being established.

Havsbrún’s director, Odd Eliasen, noted that it will take about two months before the system is operational and residents will start to notice an improvement. Initially, the air purification system will be connected only to the feed department, with plans for later integration with the meal production department.

The total investment for the air purification system and the new chimney amounts to between 40 and 50 million Danish kroner.
