The police in Southwest Finland have arrested a man suspected of being behind a significant series of online scams, with allegations of nearly 100 cases of fraud. In June, authorities reported on a scam operation that defrauded many individuals involved in purchasing auto parts online.

According to the police’s recent statement, the suspected scammer offered vehicle parts to buyers searching online, collected payments into his bank account, but never delivered the promised parts. Victims lost between €20 to €200 each in these scams.

The suspect operated under the same name for a long period but had to use several different aliases during the summer. However, his methods and the types of products he “sold” have remained consistent. He is said to have used various foreign bank accounts for his activities, as noted by Crime Superintendent Karri Laakso from the Southwest Finland police.

Victims are encouraged to report their cases to the police. According to police reports, the suspect began his active fraudulent activities in April of last year and continued until his recent arrest. As of now, he faces 92 counts of fraud, though authorities believe the actual number could be even higher. In June, police confirmed that they had identified at least 129 scam incidents.

The police urge anyone who has fallen victim to this type of fraud to file a report, which can be done through the police’s electronic service or at the nearest police station.
