The Jyväskylä District Court in Central Finland has commenced the proceedings for a significant and long-lasting human trafficking case today. A Finnish-Thai couple is suspected of operating a trafficking ring through Thai massage parlors for nearly a decade, from August 2014 to January 2023. The main suspects are approximately 60 years old.

According to the indictment, the couple ran their human trafficking activities across various Thai massage establishments in Jyväskylä, Mikkeli, Seinäjoki, Joensuu, Kuopio, and Kokkola. The prosecutor argues that the sale of sexual services in conjunction with Thai massage was a regular practice in all these locations. The couple allegedly rented out a Thai massage business in Jyväskylä to individuals who provided paid sexual services on the premises.

The prosecution demands a prison sentence of between two and a half to three years of unconditional imprisonment for the couple for serious human trafficking offenses. Additionally, for four other defendants involved in the case, the prosecution seeks sentences ranging from three to ten months of conditional imprisonment. The charges against them include aiding and abetting serious human trafficking and aggravated money laundering.
