A teenage boy suspected of stabbing three individuals during Menningarnótt has been transferred to the Hólmsheiði prison, as concerns for his safety arose while he was at Stuðlar, a temporary facility for children and youth. The 16-year-old had received death threats, prompting the transfer.

One of the victims, a 16-year-old girl, remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit of Landspítali and is reported to be in life-threatening status.

The police and special response units have maintained a visible presence at the Stuðlar facility since Wednesday, when the boy arrived there amid ongoing threats. As it became clear that his safety could no longer be guaranteed, officials decided to relocate him to the secure environment of Hólmsheiði prison, where he will be accommodated in a designated family room. Social services staff will provide support and care for him during his stay.

Children can be placed in prison if it aligns with their best interests. According to police chief Grímur Grímsson, the investigation is progressing well. The boy has been ordered to continue in custody until September 26, based on public safety concerns.
