Suspect in Neskaupstaður double murder to remain in custody until September 6
A man suspected of murdering an elderly couple in Neskaupstaður last week will remain in custody and isolation until at least September 6. The decision to extend his custody was announced by the East Iceland Police Chief, confirming that he will also be kept in isolation.
The courts have approved a request for a psychiatric evaluation of the suspect. The couple was discovered dead in their home in the early hours of last Thursday, and the suspect was arrested later that day in Reykjavík while driving the couple’s car.
Investigators report that the investigation is progressing well, although efforts to collect and analyze evidence, including electronic data and materials from the crime scene, will take time.
