The audio news service Briif is set to cease operations. The company announced on its website that it could not find the conditions to continue its consumer business in the current market environment. Launched in October 2023, the audio news app featured articles from Finnish and international media outlets, with a monthly subscription fee of €11.99. The mobile application will be discontinued on September 30, 2024, but will remain functional until then. Customers who have purchased an annual subscription will receive credits for the remaining months.

Briif’s CEO, Pia-Maria Nickström, mentioned in February that the company’s goal was to become the next major audio service for consumers. She aspired for the company to achieve success similar to that of streaming giant Spotify. However, she did not disclose the number of users the app had at that time. Through Briif, users could listen to articles from publications such as Suomen Kuvalehden, Trendin, Talouselämän, The Economist, and the Financial Times.

The discontinuation of Briif was first reported by Helsingin Sanomat. A video accompanying the article features journalist Helmi Soininvaara discussing the audio journalism app Briif.
