Co-owner removed from Icelandic Association of Mountain Guides after tragic incident
A co-owner of Ice Pic Journeys has been removed from his position on the board of the Icelandic Association of Mountain Guides. The individual, Mike Reid, has also been expelled from the organization as a guide, as stated in an announcement on the association’s website. This decision was made during a board meeting held on August 26.
The development follows a tragic incident in which an American tourist died during a tour of an ice cave in the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, and his pregnant wife was seriously injured. Fortunately, she is not in life-threatening condition, and both mother and child are reported to be doing well under the circumstances, according to recent news reports.
This incident has sparked significant debate regarding the appropriateness of conducting such tours during the peak summer season.
