Firefighters battle large blaze in abandoned industrial hall in Mälikkälä, Turku

Firefighters are currently battling a large fire at an abandoned industrial hall in the Mälikkälä district of Turku, Finland. The structure, covering approximately 3,000 square meters, had previously been unused and has suffered two prior fires. The status of the fire escalated from a medium-level incident to a large fire shortly after it was reported around 2:30 PM local time.

Approximately twenty firefighting units have been dispatched to the scene. According to fire chief Sebastian Holm, the building is in a severely damaged state, and it is anticipated that it will be deemed unfit for repair post-incident.

Authorities have urged residents to avoid the area around Pläkkikaupunginkatu and to ensure that windows and ventilation systems are closed, as smoke is reportedly heavy in the vicinity.
