Woman dies after ATV accident in Himanka, Kalajoki

A middle-aged woman died on Tuesday after being trapped under the all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and trailer she was operating in Himanka, Kalajoki. According to a police statement, the woman, who was engaged in work-related tasks, was driving a combination of a registered ATV and a trailer when she unexpectedly lost control of the vehicle for reasons still unknown, causing it to veer off into a ditch.
The driver became pinned beneath the ATV and trailer and succumbed to her injuries. Police received an emergency call about the incident at 1:30 PM from a bystander who discovered the vehicle combination in the ditch. At the time of the accident, the deceased woman was not wearing a safety helmet.
Authorities, including the police and the traffic accident investigation board, are looking into the circumstances surrounding the accident. The police are treating the investigation as a case of endangering traffic safety, a cause of death inquiry, and a workplace accident, given that the driver was performing work duties at the time of the incident.
