Stora Enso to submit new project for evaluation by ELY in Finland
Stora Enso will submit a new project for evaluation by the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY), according to the company’s forestry director, Janne Partanen, during an appearance on A-studio. “At the moment, we have identified one project that we will present to ELY,” he stated. However, Partanen did not disclose specifics about the project during the interview.
He also mentioned that Stora Enso plans to lower the threshold for submitting cases for ELY’s assessment in the future. The company previously announced that it halted logging operations in all its ecologically valuable sites following recent revelations regarding raw material destruction. According to Partanen, even current worksites are now under scrutiny.
“It is extremely important for us that all these cases are brought to light, and we can learn from them,” he emphasized.
Alongside Partanen in the A-studio discussion were Sari Myllyoja, head of the environmental and natural resource division at Kainuu ELY, and Panu Halme, a university lecturer in conservation biology.
