Ari Kumpulainen, CEO of the Piikkio Works cabin factory located in Kaarina, expressed relief over the confirmation of a cruise ship order from Meyer Turku shipyard. He noted that if the order had not been secured, the subcontractor could have entered into restructuring talks this fall.
“Some operations would have faced significant challenges. This is fantastic news for the continuity of our work. Now we can continue without any restructuring negotiations,” he explained, emphasizing the order’s importance.
The design of cabins for the new Icon 4 will commence at Kumpulainen’s factory this autumn. He assessed that the recently announced cruise ship order could sustain employment at the cabin factory until 2030, especially if the optional ships 5 and 6 are also realized.
