Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (HSL) announced on Monday that it has removed campaign images deemed racist. The campaign featured several social media influencers, including the duo known as Molybros, composed of Iban and Keinaan. The pair addressed the controversy surrounding the images on their Instagram story on Monday evening.
“We are deeply disappointed and frustrated that individuals outside of minority groups feel entitled to speak on our behalf and define what constitutes racism,” Molybros said. They believe such actions silence those who have personally experienced discrimination and the ramifications of racism.
The duo emphasized their understanding that these topics evoke strong emotions. “We want to highlight that we have many young followers and aim to encourage them to make responsible choices in their lives. Therefore, we believe that HSL’s fake ticket campaign is an effective way to raise awareness about important issues,” they added. Molybros plans to continue commenting on the matter on Tuesday.
The purpose of HSL’s fake ticket campaign was to remind people that using a counterfeit ticket is a police matter, not just subject to a warning or inspection fee. According to HSL, the advertisements led to the impression that the faces of the campaign represented those who misuse false tickets.
