Bortelid Mat, a grocery store in Åseral, has been relocated approximately 80 meters to facilitate the construction of a new community building. The move occurred on Monday evening and was executed by Mammoet, a heavy lifting company. Despite the store being heavier than expected due to rainwater accumulation on its turf roof, the operation proceeded smoothly.
Prior to the move, the store was emptied of its inventory last Saturday, and a temporary shop opened its doors on Tuesday. Susanne Skeie, the store manager, expressed her excitement about the successful relocation and noted the importance of having a grocery store available in the area. Local volunteers played a significant role in assisting with the move, helping to dismantle shelves and organize merchandise in the temporary store during both day and evening shifts.
The new community building is scheduled for completion in a year, and Bortelid Mat aims to resume its operations as a grocery store by the autumn holiday. Skeie has been deeply involved in planning this transition, emphasizing the decision to move and reuse the existing store structure as the best approach for development in the area.
