Emergency services activate mass casualty plan at Breiðamerkurjökull in Iceland

Emergency services have activated a mass casualty plan due to an incident at Breiðamerkurjökull. Two helicopters from the Coast Guard have been dispatched, along with rescue teams and police.

According to reports, the incident occurred west of Jökulsárlón, where a group of tourists was inside an ice cave when part of the structure collapsed, injuring some individuals. Hjördís Guðmundsdóttir, the communications officer for civil protection, confirmed the activation of the mass casualty plan in response to the situation.

Rescue efforts are currently underway as authorities attempt to reach the site and assess the condition of those affected. The situation remains fluid, and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
