Police respond to multiple incidents, including knife attack in downtown Reykjavík

The police in the Reykjavík Capital Region were busy last night, responding to multiple incidents, including a serious knife attack in downtown Reykjavik, resulting in one person being detained. The situation is under investigation, and authorities have not released additional details.

In addition to the knife assault, reports were made regarding five other minor assaults, group altercations among youth, and incidents involving intoxicated young people. A sixteen-year-old boy was arrested in downtown Reykjavík after being found in possession of a knife around 6 PM. He was heavily intoxicated, prompting child protection services to become involved.

The police also addressed a group fight involving youths, leading to the arrest of two individuals who were subsequently taken to a police station. In total, fifteen incidents were documented where minors, often under 15 years old, were placed in a special shelter due to intoxication or violations of curfew. The authorities informed both parents and child protection services.

Furthermore, at least five drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and police intervened in cases involving drug sales, weapon offenses, and further DUI incidents. A separate investigation led to a drug-related arrest at a police station.

In Kópavogur, a woman was removed from a residence where she was unwelcome; the police had to use handcuffs to subdue her as she resisted and even spat at officers. The overall situation highlights ongoing concerns regarding youth behavior and substance abuse in the region.
