Schoolchildren fall ill in Emstrubotnar, rescue teams respond rapidly
In Emstrubotnar, a group of schoolchildren have fallen ill, prompting swift action from rescue teams. At least 15 out of a group of 50 children were reported sick at Emstruskála late on the evening of August 22. They were evacuated to Hvolsvöll at around 7 AM the next morning.
Rescue efforts are also underway to assist several tourists who have become ill over the past 24 hours, primarily those at Emstruskála. There are also reports of illnesses at Básar. The evacuation of these tourists is being coordinated with the Health Institution of South Iceland and the Chief Epidemiologist, who is sending additional medical supplies to Hvolsvöll due to the high number of sick individuals straining the resources of the rescue teams.
Furthermore, there are concerns about tourists who set out on foot from Emstrum to Þórsmörk this morning, posing challenges for retrieval efforts along that trail, as indicated in the official statements.
