Fifteen children and several tourists fall ill at Emstruskála in Iceland

At least fifteen children and several tourists fell ill at Emstruskála, prompting rescue teams to assist in their evacuation to Hvolsvöll. The emergency response occurred just before midnight when authorities were alerted to the situation involving a group of schoolchildren.

Approximately 15 out of a total of 50 children had shown symptoms of illness, and they were transported from the site early this morning. Meanwhile, reports of illness among tourists have also surfaced, primarily from Emstruskála, with additional notifications coming from Básum.

The evacuation of tourists is being coordinated with the South Iceland healthcare institution and public health officials, who are dispatching additional medical supplies to Hvolsvöll due to the high demand for equipment used by rescue teams responding to numerous cases of illness.

Efforts are also underway to reach tourists who set out on foot from Emstrum to Þórsmörk this morning. It has been noted that retrieving people on that hiking route may present difficulties, complicating the overall response.

Authorities continue to assess the situation and provide necessary care for all affected individuals.
