Police pursuit of a suspected drug-affected driver ends in a rollover accident on Reykjanesbraut
A dramatic police chase unfolded today on Reykjanesbraut when a driver, suspected of operating under the influence of drugs, was pursued at high speeds. The incident culminated in a rollover accident.
The police received reports at around 6 PM regarding reckless driving in Hafnarfjördur, where the suspect collided with another vehicle. Officers from the Suðurnes police force initiated a pursuit, during which the driver reached speeds between 170 and 180 kilometers per hour. The chase ended when the vehicle rolled multiple times and crashed over a barrier between lanes.
According to Sölvi Rafn Rafnsson, a chief inspector with the Suðurnes police, the driver managed to exit the vehicle on their own but was subsequently taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about impaired driving, particularly related to drug use, as authorities continue to monitor and respond to reckless behavior on the roads.
