Residents urged to remove campers from school parking lots in Hafnarfjörður and Garðabær

Local municipalities have allowed residents to park their campers in school parking lots during the summer months. As staff and students return to school, the process of removing these vehicles from designated areas is proving to be inconsistent.

In Hafnarfjörður, camper owners were given until August 11 to clear their vehicles. However, one trailer remains unclaimed at Lækjarskóli, with school office staff attempting to contact its owner in hopes of its removal before classes resume tomorrow.

The situation is more challenging at Sjálandsskóli in Garðabær. Silja Kristjánsdóttir, a department head, sent a reminder to local residents yesterday to take their campers away. Currently, twelve campers occupy parking spots at the school, risking removal at the owner’s expense if they are not collected soon.

Silja expressed her hope that it would not come to that. While she appreciates the use of the school’s parking lot, it is essential for staff to have access to these spaces with school starting tomorrow. “We primarily want to handle this collaboratively with residents in the neighborhood,” she stated.
