Healthcare professionals in Finland considering career changes amid workforce challenges

The desire to switch careers remains prevalent in the healthcare sector, according to the Finnish social and healthcare professionals’ union, Tehy. A recent survey conducted by Tehy revealed that a significant majority of nursing leaders are considering leaving the profession. The highest interest in career changes was expressed among direct supervisors, such as department heads and assistant department heads, with over 80% contemplating this decision.

The most common reasons for considering a move include the constant need to adapt to changing resources, such as staff shortages and personnel shifts, the aspiration for better salaries, and the ongoing pressure of workload. More than 60% of respondents feel that the recent reform of welfare regions has increased the amount of administrative work required.

Tehy’s previous surveys indicate that the inclination to switch careers within the healthcare field has been a long-standing issue.
