Iceland outlines updated transport agreement to enhance infrastructure by 2040

An updated transport agreement for Iceland outlines key projects through to 2040, categorized into four main areas: national roads, urban transit, cycling and pedestrian paths, and traffic management focused on flow and safety.

The total cost of the transport agreement has significantly increased, now estimated at 310 billion Icelandic króna, up from 160 billion. A substantial portion, 42% of the total investment, will be allocated to the development of national roads, while another 42% will go towards urban transit projects. Cycling and pedestrian pathways will receive 13% of the funding, and traffic management initiatives will account for the remaining 3%.

The emphasis on equal investment in both national roads and urban transit reflects a balanced approach to improving infrastructure across the region. The agreement aims to enhance the quality and accessibility of transportation options, ensuring safe and efficient movement for all residents.
