Hot water supply suspended in capital region of Iceland due to geothermal pipeline connection

Starting at 10 AM, a significant portion of the capital region in Iceland will experience a suspension of hot water supply due to the connection of a new geothermal heating pipeline. This disruption will affect approximately one-third of the country’s population, including residents of Hafnarfjörður, Garðabær, Álftanes, nearly all of Kópavogur, Norðlingaholt, Breiðholt, Almannadal, and Hólmsheiði.

The hot water shortage is expected to last until at least noon on Wednesday. People are encouraged to consult the guidelines on the Veitur website for advice on how to manage without hot water and to mitigate any potential damage.

Meanwhile, the region is also anticipating changes in weather over the next 24 hours, with rising temperatures and reduced precipitation. Residents are advised to stay informed about local conditions and any further updates from relevant authorities.
