Fire crew investigates gasoline smell at Hvassaleiti apartment block

Firefighters found a smell of petrol outside an apartment block in the Hvassaleiti area on Saturday evening, but could not locate its source, mbl.is reported.

A fire engine was sent to the building at about 9 p.m. after a report of an unusual smell. Firefighters suspected a petrol leak outside but decided no action was needed, Lárus Steindór Björnsson, a supervisor with the fire service in the capital region, told mbl.is.

The fire service also responded to an alert from a fire safety system that evening. There was no danger, Björnsson said.
