Sisters open free Christmas bazaar in Auning
Two sisters are offering families free toys and clothes at a Christmas bazaar in Auning, on Djursland, after collecting more than 2,000 donated items. DR reported that the bazaar is open this weekend.
Christina and Pernille Andersen began collecting donations in April for their “swap for something new” event. Families who donated can take home whatever they need, without paying or having to match the value of their donation.
Christina Andersen said her sister came up with the idea after hearing about a colleague with three children who had to buy 72 gifts for Christmas calendars, on top of Christmas presents. The sisters wanted to find a way to help families avoid the expense.
Nearly 100 families have donated items, including bicycles, drones, clothes, puzzles and board games. The sisters have sorted and cleaned the donations, checked the puzzles and tested the electronic items.
When the bazaar closes on Sunday, local childcare centres and after-school programmes have been invited to take what they can use. Any remaining items will go to Mødrehjælpen in Randers. The sisters say they plan to hold the bazaar again next year, when everyone will be able to take part.
