Roadworks in eastern Aalborg are causing afternoon traffic jams that affect thousands of employees, DR reports. The disruption is expected to continue into 2027.

Commuters leaving Aalborg University, the North Denmark Region, Aalborg University Hospital and other large workplaces are facing queues as several major road projects run at the same time. The work is particularly disruptive during rush hour.

One project is widening Egnsplanvej, a busy route between Aalborg University Hospital and the E45 motorway. The road has been made one-way while an extra lane is added, with the work scheduled to continue until February 2027.

Torben Gade, a project team leader at Aalborg Municipality, said he regretted that the work coincided with projects by the Road Directorate in the same area. The municipality had to use the project funding this year, he said, adding that the work was not intended to inconvenience anyone. Preparatory investigations were carried out during the spring.

The municipality and the Road Directorate informed each other about their projects but did not adjust their schedules, Gade said. “There has not been a great deal of coordination,” he said.

Bus services are also affected by roadworks on Egnsplanvej, Hadsundvej and Universitetsboulevarden. Erik Frederiksen, operations manager at Nordjylland Trafikselskab, said buses have to take detours, which can affect schedules and journey times. The company could also face extra costs if it needs to add driving time.

Most of the Road Directorate’s roadworks are expected to be completed by November 30, while one project is scheduled to finish on April 10, 2027. The municipality’s work on Egnsplanvej is expected to end in February 2027.
