Witness says Íris sent abusive messages in boy’s grandmother’s name
The son of Íris Helga Jónatansdóttir’s former boyfriend told a court that she sent him hurtful messages, including from an account using his paternal grandmother’s name, mbl.is reported.
The main hearing in the case continued at Reykjanes District Court on Friday. Íris is charged with stalking, defamatory allegations, document forgery, making false accusations and offences under child protection laws. Many of the charges relate to her former boyfriend and his partner.
The son said he had no contact with Íris when she began messaging him. His father had had a brief relationship with her, but she and the son did not interact during that time. He said she sent messages to him and close family members from her personal social media accounts and two other accounts. One was in the name of his paternal grandmother.
At first, the messages did not affect him, he said, but their volume eventually made him suspicious. Based on their content, he believed Íris was behind them. He said the messages included statements that she hoped his father would die by suicide, that his father did not love him, and questions about how he felt knowing his mother was a drug addict.
He also said Íris claimed to know his employer and threatened to have him fired. She drove to his home, recorded a video and sent it to him, he testified.
The son appeared visibly distressed as he described the impact on him and his father. He said the messages were frightening, particularly because Íris knew where he lived and had threatened his job. He said his father was upset every day and afraid to go out in public, partly because of flyers that Íris is accused of making and distributing around Reykjanesbær and Suðurnesjabær. The flyers allegedly accused the father of harassment, possessing child sexual abuse material and behaving inappropriately toward children in the towns.
