The Finnish film Lapland War has attracted more than 200,000 cinema-goers in just two weeks, Yle reports. By Thursday, 203,016 people had seen the film, which premiered on October 23.
Its opening weekend drew 80,178 viewers, including preview screenings, making it the strongest Friday-to-Sunday opening for a Finnish film in the 2020s. The film passed 100,000 viewers in five days. Its second weekend brought in 49,776 viewers, the second-largest weekend result in Finland this year.
Director Aku Louhimies thanked audiences for their interest in Finnish stories and said viewers had come from a range of age groups. The film is restricted to viewers aged 16 and over.
Producer Andrei Alén said Lapland War was made entirely in Finland, which he described as unusual today. He said audience support helps make it possible to produce ambitious Finnish films and employ Finnish film professionals.
