An ice kiosk is now about 10 metres from the edge of the dune it stands on, and its owner has renamed it Titanic. DR reports that Bent Hjorth Petersen fears the building may not survive the winter’s storms.

Last weekend, the sea eroded several metres of coastline near Skagen, according to Petersen. The damage was in Kandestederne, a nearby summer-house area.

Petersen bought the small wooden kiosk five years ago. He says he knew it could eventually be lost to the sea, but the erosion has happened faster than he expected.

He is waiting for a decision on an application for coastal protection. Petersen has asked for permission to install willow, as has been allowed further along the coast at Kandestederne. He says the municipality has been unusually slow to process the application.

Frederikshavn Municipality’s Technical and Environment Committee is due to discuss the case at a meeting in late November. Committee chair Søren Visti of the Socialist People’s Party said he would comment after the committee had considered it.
