Both of the Faroe Islands’ patrol and rescue ships are expected to return to service soon, KVF reports. Tjaldrið is expected to resume sailing late next week, while Brimil should be ready in about a week and a half, according to Jóhan Simonsen, acting director of Vørn.
Brimil began extensive maintenance and repair work in early August, which was originally scheduled to finish in mid-October. Tjaldrið has been at a shipyard in Tórshavn after suffering an engine failure late in August.
No patrol or rescue ship has been available since August 20, when Tjaldrið broke down while Brimil was in dock. Officials had expected delays in obtaining spare parts for Tjaldrið, but repairs have progressed better than expected, Simonsen said.
