A childcare centre in Støvring has closed with immediate effect after asbestos dust was found in its attic, DR reported. About 60 children have been moved to other childcare arrangements in Rebild Municipality while the building is investigated and cleaned.
The dust was discovered during contractors’ work in the attic, after the centre’s roof had been replaced. Børnehuset Bavnebakken is an integrated childcare centre with a nursery and kindergarten.
Rebild Municipality said 30 samples taken inside the centre showed no traces of asbestos that could have put children or staff at risk. The municipality has brought in certified asbestos experts to carry out further tests and cleaning before children and staff return.
The municipality said both the Danish Patient Safety Authority and the Danish Working Environment Authority had approved its handling of the case.
