A district court in South Karelia has sentenced four people to prison for serious drug offences involving the sale of nearly nine kilos of amphetamine, Yle reported.

Two men in their twenties received unconditional seven-year prison sentences. A third man in his twenties was sentenced to six years in prison for an aggravated drug offence. A man aged about 25 received a sentence of two years and five months for aiding an aggravated drug offence.

According to the court, two of the defendants possessed, sold and brokered amphetamine and cocaine for distribution. The drugs were transported by car from the Helsinki metropolitan area to Lappeenranta during spring 2026. The two main offenders sold nearly nine kilos of amphetamine between them and made tens of thousands of euros from the crimes. The defendants also sold and brokered ketamine.

The court considered the offences aggravated because they involved a large quantity of a highly dangerous drug and sought substantial financial gain. The ruling can be appealed to the court of appeal.
