crime, stabbing, Tampere

Police say they have an idea of why an 18-year-old allegedly stabbed one person and tried to stab another outside Kale shopping centre in Tampere. Yle reported that police are seeking to have the man remanded in custody on suspicion of two attempted manslaughters.

The Pirkanmaa District Court was due to consider the request on Thursday afternoon. The incident happened on Tuesday evening in the Kaleva district.

The suspect has not admitted to the crime in questioning. He has said he cannot remember what happened and that he was intoxicated. Police said they could not yet confirm whether he was intoxicated, as test results were still pending.

The suspect, who is from another locality, did not know the victims beforehand. The person who was stabbed and taken to hospital is a man. The second person was not physically injured, though their clothing was torn.

Police have interviewed the injured parties. Two people left the scene and were detained nearby; one has since been released.
