Midwife calls conditions for Suðuroy mothers undignified

A midwife says accommodation for pregnant women from Suðuroy who travel to Tórshavn to give birth is undignified, Kringvarp Føroya (KVF) reports.

For the past 10 years, women from the island have stayed for one or two weeks before giving birth at the guesthouse at the National Hospital. Midwife Bjørg av Rana said on the programme SALT last week that conditions there were so poor “you would think it was a lie.”
