Vágur Mayor Bjarni Johansen says it is not the responsibility of municipalities in Suðuroy to provide better accommodation in Tórshavn for pregnant women from the island, KVF reports.

Johansen said he and his wife stayed at Gestalonin, accommodation at the National Hospital, when they were expecting their first child. They chose not to stay there for their next children because the rooms were in very poor condition.

Midwife Bjørg av Rana has argued that the conditions are so poor that Suðuroy’s municipalities should provide pregnant women with better accommodation while they wait in Tórshavn. Johansen disagrees that this is a municipal responsibility.
