Health Minister Alma Möller is deeply concerned about people waiting for treatment at Vogur hospital and says the current situation is unacceptable, mbl.is reported.

Vogur has been operating at minimum capacity since early August. Last week, eight patients were admitted, although the hospital can accommodate 45.

In a written response to questions from Morgunblaðið, Möller said Icelandic Health Insurance and SÁÁ are reviewing their current contract. The work aims to strengthen governance and establish a clearer framework for SÁÁ’s healthcare services, and is progressing well, she said.

Asked whether Landspítali hospital had failed to provide doctors as discussed, the minister said SÁÁ and Landspítali had been in contact about medical staffing.

Möller said she has no authority to remove SÁÁ’s board or cut funding to its operations; responsibility for the contract rests with Icelandic Health Insurance. She said she is closely monitoring developments and has been in regular contact with SÁÁ, Icelandic Health Insurance, the Directorate of Health and Landspítali.
