Iceland’s National Police Commissioner’s special unit has used officers’ private cars for specialist operations and training, mbl.is reports. The unit’s communications director says its vehicle fleet urgently needs strengthening because the cars are old.
Over the past 12 months, the unit carried out two specialist operations in private cars. One was connected to an operation against organised crime. Officers also used private cars for training twice.
The unit has also begun using a vehicle built in the last century that had been kept at a police museum.
