Heavy rain and wind in October helped electricity utility SEV generate 78% of its power from renewable sources, 26 percentage points more than in October last year, KVF reports.

Demand for electricity was roughly unchanged from a year earlier. Hydropower accounted for 39% of generation, wind power for 37%, and biogas and solar power together for 2%. Oil supplied the remaining 22%.

In Suðuroy, 92% of electricity in October came from renewable sources. The oil-fired Vágur power station generated 8% and used 52 tonnes of oil during the month. By comparison, the Sund power station uses an average of 125 tonnes of oil per day, SEV said.
