Sipoo’s building and environmental committee has responded favourably to a construction permit application for a logistics centre that could create more than 200 permanent jobs, Yle reports.
The proposed building would cover just over 70,000 square metres on the Boxi employment area. The applicant is Kiinteistö Oy Sipoon Boxi, and the centre is intended for use by an international company. Committee chair Anders Söderling said the committee held an extra meeting on Tuesday to consider the application. He declined to estimate how many jobs construction might create.
The project is planned on two of three plots in an industrial and warehouse zone covered by a local plan that took effect in 2017. The zone allows a total of 100,000 square metres of building floor area, and a later expansion is planned for the third plot.
Sipoo’s council approved the sale of the plots in early October 2026. The sale contract will be signed once the construction permit becomes legally valid. The buyer must build half of the zone’s permitted floor area within three years of the sale.
The building will be mostly single-storey and semi-heated, with a heated, two-storey office section. Plans include 148 car parking spaces and 30 bicycle spaces. The municipal planning department, rescue authority and environmental health services support the project subject to conditions. One neighbour raised concerns about how stormwater would be drained from the site.
