The Copenhagen metropolitan area recorded 37% economic growth from 2014 to 2024, outpacing comparable cities including Stockholm, Berlin, Amsterdam and Hamburg, according to a report from Copenhagen Municipality covered by DR.
The municipality’s first comprehensive business report also found that 7,000 workplaces and more than 100,000 jobs were added in Copenhagen Municipality over the decade.
Andreas Keil, Copenhagen’s employment, integration and business mayor, said local companies had created jobs and growth benefiting Denmark. He said the city would work to ensure there is room for businesses to continue operating and expanding.
Copenhagen Lord Mayor Sisse Marie Welling said the figures reflected the strength of local businesses. She said growth should benefit the whole city and that companies should contribute to its development.
The report also highlighted concerns among businesses. Three out of four said the municipality should improve parking, while only one in four was satisfied with the city’s business-friendliness. Keil plans to bring business representatives together for a summit to discuss current challenges.
The Capital Region, the region around Copenhagen, is home to 32% of Denmark’s population and accounts for 44% of the country’s total value creation, the report said.
