Yle seeks workers offered self-employment instead of jobs

Monday 2nd November 2026 on 19:01 in Finland

Finland, self-employment, work

Yle is seeking people who were offered self-employment instead of paid work, and wants to hear whether they chose it freely or felt they had no other option.

More people are doing work as so-called light entrepreneurs instead of as employees, Yle reports. The Finnish Centre for Pensions and Statistics Finland have said the number has risen by tens of thousands in recent years.

Light entrepreneurs are people who handle their invoicing through a billing service. “Light entrepreneur” is a marketing term used by billing services and is not recognised in Finnish law. Yle reported in 2024 that problems linked to this form of work had become more common.

Yle is gathering people’s experiences for a forthcoming article. Those interested in being interviewed can fill in the form on Yle’s website or email journalist Essi Markkula at [email protected]. All information will be handled confidentially, and any interview will be agreed separately.
