Iris Helga Jónatansdóttir says years of hostility from a woman’s family have led to accusations against her, mbl.is reported, as their communications with her were discussed at Reykjanes District Court on Monday. Iris denies the charges. The woman is the partner of Iris’s former boyfriend, and her parents and brother are said to have received threatening messages from Iris.
Iris is accused of sending repeated threatening messages to the woman’s father, including derogatory remarks about his daughter. Iris says he worked at the same workplace as her, where her daughter also attended sports practices, and that he harassed both of them. She claims he tried to catch her sending threats to members of his family and demanded that her daughter explain an incident in which syrup was put through the partner’s letterbox. Iris’s daughter admitted to child protection authorities that she had done it. The father was eventually required to change shifts to avoid contact with the daughter, Iris says.
Iris is also accused of sending the woman’s mother messages containing threats against family members, including the woman’s children. Iris says the mother bullied her for years, dating back to when they worked together, and watched her and her children. She says the mother repeatedly sat in a car on her street and once followed her and the children into a shop. Iris reported the incident to police.
The charges also concern messages allegedly sent to the woman’s brother that threatened her life and her husband’s, including a threat to set fire to their apartment. Iris says the brother came to her home three or four times wearing a balaclava and threatened to kill her and her children. She says police witnessed one incident and recorded it on a body camera, but that it was later covered up. Iris says she and her children remain afraid of him.
